Yesterday, a sizable group of around 50 to 60 vehicles gathered illegally for street racing in Portland, causing a cat-and-mouse situation between participants and the police, the Portland Police Bureau reported. After the initial meet-up at North Lombard Street and North Chautauqua Boulevard, racers scattered only to reconvene multiple times across the city, challenging law enforcement as they aggressively sought to dissolve the unlawful assembly and dangerous driving.

Upon officers intervening at the first location, the crowd moved to North Marine Drive and Portland Road and subsequently to the Lloyd Center area, where additional police were already stationed when racers arrived. At this point, the streets became a muddled scramble as officers conducted traffic stops and racers attempted to maneuver out of their grasp. Amidst these evolving confrontations, some participants escalated the situation, launching fireworks at police vehicles from a parking structure, thankfully not resulting in any injuries.

Enforcement proved effective. Responding to the evening's events, the Portland Police carried out 15 traffic stops, issued 10 citations, towed 10 vehicles, and made four arrests. Furthermore, two illegal firearms were seized during the interventions. By coordinating across multiple precincts, the PPB efficiently dispersed the renegade car enthusiasts, marking the second consecutive night they had to tackle such disruptions.

As the night progressed, the crowd's fervor did not wane. A smaller faction gathered again near North Marine Drive and North Force Avenue. Around 20 to 30 vehicles and an estimated 100 onlookers were back at it until police intervention prompted a final, more subdued dispersion of the crowd.
