The heart of Portland's active community beats strong at a unique two-in-one business that's catching the eye of both runners and beer enthusiasts. The Portland Bureau of Transportation (PBOT), in their latest online newsletter, brought into focus The Portland Running Company and its adjoining establishment, The Run Pub, which has just put the finishing touches on their outdoor dining space in line with the newest permit guidelines.
Owner Paula Harkin, who is also the orchestrator behind the multitude of running events hosted here, has ingeniously linked the finish lines of these runs to the inviting doors of The Run Pub. According to a recent feature on the Portland government website, Harkin leveraged her storefront's street space to better serve patrons, creating an alfresco spot where a cold beverage is just reward for miles clocked. "It's great to have an outdoor space for post-run beverages," Harkin said in the PBOT article, "especially if customers might have worked up a sweat beforehand!"
This latest venture is made possible through meticulous planning alongside city-approved contractors, ensuring their outdoor seating area stands up to the detailed design guidelines laid out by authorities. PBOT's recent spotlight includes not only Harkin's perspective but a showcase of the setup via photos demonstrating the considered implementation of the guidelines. Harkin appreciated this direction, noting in the PBOT article, "they were a good blueprint for my contractors to follow."
