A man died and another was injured in a crash on I-277 in Uptown on Saturday morning. QC News reported the incident happened around 2:45 a.m. near Exit 1E, close to Bank of America Stadium.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police reported a crash on I-277 involving a red 2006 Honda Civic and a black 1996 Ford Explorer. The driver of the Honda, 32-year-old Peter Jacob Didier, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to WCNC. The 57-year-old driver of the Ford was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The interstate was closed until about 8:30 a.m., with the vehicles removed before 7 a.m.

Police said Didier was driving the wrong way in the southbound lanes of I-277 when his vehicle collided head-on with another early Saturday morning, killing him and injuring the other driver. The other driver was not impaired, and it is not yet known if impairment or speeding were factors for Didier. Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Pressley at (704) 432-2169 ext. 2 or Charlotte Crime Stoppers at (704) 334-1600, through their app, or website.
