Early morning at the Denver BNSF yard turned grave as a rail worker became ensnared by derailed train cars, necessitating a prompt response from the Denver Fire Department, as 9News reported. The incident occurred around 12:13 a.m. Tuesday at 3700 North Globeville Road, where crews were quickly dispatched to the scene and extracted the worker, who sustained serious leg injuries, according to the Denver Fire Department's transmission of events.
The repercussions for the unnamed rail worker were dire, the Denver Fire Department shared with The Denver Post that the man suffered severe injuries to his right leg, and the NTSB has stepped in to investigate the cause of the derailment in the Globeville Yard which turned a typical work site into a corridor of peril and uncertainty for those who lay down railway tracks for a living.
Further unfolding the grim narrative, Denver7 gives voice to the Sheet Metal Air Rail and Transportation Workers Union (SMART), which revealed the extent of the workers' grievous injuries. Carl Smith, a representative from SMART, informed Denver7 that the employee was urgently taken to surgery, and as a result of the critical damage, his right leg was amputated. Smith also noted that this tragedy is the latest in a recent string of accidents involving BNSF in Colorado, marking the fourth significant event in as many years.
