The National Weather Service is forecasting a sweltering few days ahead for San Antonio, with the mercury set to soar near triple digits. "Sunny and hot, with a high near 99," reports the National Weather Service for today, with a heat index climbing even higher to a scorching 104 degrees. The light breezes that might offer a respite, becoming northeast at 5 to 10 mph in the afternoon, will do little to cool down the intense heat.
Residents looking forward to some evening relief might have to contend with scattered showers and thunderstorms before the clock strikes 1 a.m., then watch as they taper off to isolated showers. As the National Weather Service notes, tonight's partly cloudy skies will host temperatures hovering around a warm 78 degrees, while winds, initially from the northeast at 5 to 10 mph, will slow to a whisper come nightfall. The chance of precipitation stands at 30%.
The weather pattern continues with variability as Thursday promises scattered showers and the potential boom of thunderstorms between the bookends of 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. "Showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm after 1pm," forecasts the National Weather Service, despite the backdrop of mostly sunny skies and a high edging close to 97. The day's heat index won't give much relief either, projected as high as 103. With a chance of precipitation at 70%, new rainfall could accumulate from a tenth to a quarter of an inch, but thunderstorms could bring higher amounts.
Without a steadfast grip of serenity, Thursday night welcomes a 40% shot of more showers and thunderstorms, under partly cloudy heavens guiding temperatures to a low around 77. The northeast wind will make a calm retreat, hushing to stillness in the evening. As Friday dawns, so too does the chance of showers, with thunderstorms potentially rumbling into existence after 1 p.m. "Mostly sunny, with a high near 95," the National Weather Service predicts, with an ever-present east northeast wind around 5 mph.
Come Friday night, barometers of change see a chance of showers and thunderstorms before 7 p.m., followed by a slight chance of showers stretching into the early hours. Skies will largely clear though, as San Antonio settles into a mild 76 degrees. The constant companion of an east wind around 5 mph in the evening will dissolve into calm as the night progresses.
The weekend forecast remains much in the same vein, with a 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms interrupting Saturday's sunny narrative, which boasts a high near 96 degrees. Similar conditions extend into the start of next week, with sunny days punctuated by slight chances for precipitation and highs consistently in the mid-to-high 90s.
