In a considerable enforcement endeavor at the end of July, Customs and Border Protection officers at the San Diego Field Office impounded over $32 million worth of illegal narcotics. The seizures occurred over 132 distinct events and amounted to more than 9,800 pounds of drugs, aiming to undercut the finances of transnational criminal drug organizations and promote safer communities.

Among the haul, the CBP officers confiscated various drugs, including 6,677 pounds of methamphetamine, 2,852 pounds of cocaine, 326 pounds of fentanyl, and 27 pounds of heroin, each with their own significant street value. A standout interception on July 28 involved a commercial bus at the San Ysidro Port of Entry. After a canine enforcement officer and their Human/Narcotics Detector Dog alerted to the vehicle's gas tank area, a detailed inspection revealed 149 packages of cocaine hidden in a non-factory compartment inside the gas tank, weighing in at 487 pounds.

Demonstrating the seriousness of these enforcement efforts, according to the U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Sidney K. Aki, CBP Director of Field Operations for San Diego, emphasized the reliance on "precision targeting," which helps to "stay one step ahead and identify and disrupt criminal networks before they can do further harm to our communities."
