In a focused effort to tackle narcotics smuggling in the South Bay area, deputies from the San Diego County Sheriff's Office arrested two individuals, a man and a juvenile, for possession of narcotics. According to officials, the operation took place near 3rd and Orange Avenues in Chula Vista, as part of a surveillance to thwart cross-border drug activities.
Deputies observed an exchange involving a heavily laden backpack, later found to contain a significant quantity of fentanyl, between the two. The incident, which played out on Friday morning, culminated in a truancy check revealing the juvenile in question to be 13 years old, as detailed in a release by the San Diego County Sheriff's Office.
Born December 10, 2005, Martin Corona was identified as the man who handed off the backpack. Already on probation for prior felony narcotics convictions, Corona now faces additional charges, including narcotics trafficking, child endangerment, and conspiracy. The San Diego County Sheriff's Office, stressing its stance on privacy for minors, has withheld further details regarding the young suspect. Following the juvenile's citation, authorities released him to the custody of his parents.
