A tragic accident claimed the life of 17-year-old Aaron Baten Gramajo last week in Marin County. The teen was hiking in the Marin Headlands last Monday when, according to the Marin Independent Journal, he fell from a cliff. The circumstances surrounding the accident have yet to be fully disclosed.
Gramajo, a rising senior at San Rafael High School, was an active local community member. The school's principal, Joe Ryan Dominguez, expressed his sorrow, saying, "Our thoughts are with his family and loved ones during this extremely difficult time." This sentiment was echoed in a statement made by the principal, who acknowledged the impact Aaron's passing had on his peers and neighbors. He wrote, "Aaron grew up here in San Rafael, and his loss deeply affects so many, especially those in the Laurel Dell, Davidson and SRHS community who he and his family are closely connected with," as reported by the school's official statement.
Beyond academics, Gramajo worked at Boichik Bagels and The Shack ice cream shop in Larkspur. His employers remembered him fondly, as Boichik Bagels expressed being deeply saddened by his death. The Shack highlighted his work ethic and positive attitude, stating via KRON, "Aaron was the hardest working, happiest employee and teammate at The Shack. The kids loved him, the team loved him and the customers adored him! He had the best energy and always looked like he was having fun even after hours of working!"
In the wake of this loss, San Rafael High School has offered counseling services to its students and staff, recognizing the need to support those affected as they return to school on Wednesday. The availability of these services and additional mental health resources was communicated through the school statement, ensuring the school community that help was accessible during this difficult time. They encouraged those grieving to "discuss these feelings and emotions with a parent or trusted adult," and seek "additional support if helpful," as detailed in the school's statement. The principal has also asked the community to respect the family’s wish for privacy during this time.
