Yesterday, the routine nature of a traffic enforcement stop took a decisive turn when San Rafael Police Department officers discovered more than just a lapse in vehicle paperwork. The stop occurred at the intersection of Fourth Street and Grand Avenue. According to a social media post by the San Rafael Police Department, the stopped vehicle bore expired registration, which had been neglected for over a year.

Tuesday afternoon, SRPD officers made a traffic enforcement stop in the area of Fourth Street and Grand Avenue of a vehicle that had expired registration from over a year ago.

However, the infractions didn't end with traffic violations. As the officers engaged with the vehicle's inhabitants, they found a backpack on the floor in front of the right passenger seat. Unzipping the bag revealed an alarming content: an unserialized handgun, or a "ghost gun," as they are less officially known, along with three magazines, two of which were brimming with 9mm rounds.
The driver, now identified as more than just a forgetful motorist, was promptly arrested. Their offenses, as outlined in the police statement, included felony possession of a concealed firearm and possession of an unserialized firearm. The individual now faces additional charges of carrying a concealed handgun in a vehicle, coupled with the outstanding traffic violations that initially drew police attention. The vehicle also faced the consequence of these actions, being seized and impounded by the authorities.
