The Santa Clara County Sheriff's Office High Impact Team has reportedly struck a major blow against an organized retail theft operation, dismantling a ring that targeted T.J. Maxx stores throughout the Bay Area. More than $380,000 in merchandise has been recovered in connection with this criminal endeavor after search warrants were served last week at a series of locations in San Jose.

According to the Santa Clara County Sheriff's Office, the investigation kicked off in May when T.J. Maxx's investigators brought the pattern of thefts to the attention of law enforcement. The crew, sometimes hitting multiple stores per day, is linked to at least 80 incidents and has inflicted losses pegged at over $53,000.

Eight individuals were arrested last Tuesday across five San Jose locations. Items seized during the raids included a significant haul of retail goods and even illegal narcotics. "This case is a powerful example of interagency collaboration, strategic investigation, and relentless pursuit of justice," Sheriff Robert Jonsen stated in a press release. He praised the successful operation as a testament to the relentless dedication, professionalism, and teamwork of all the agencies involved.

The combined task force, including detectives from the Sheriff’s Office, District Attorney’s Office, the Gilroy Police Department, and the Mountain View Police Department, conducted surveillance and utilized investigative techniques for months to track the suspects’ activities. At one residence alone, on Dobern Avenue in San Jose, authorities reportedly seized over $225,000 worth of stolen goods and drugs. The others saw similar discoveries, with merchandise and narcotics uncovered, and more suspects taken into custody. The culprits apprehended face charges of organized retail theft, conspiracy, grand theft, and receiving stolen property.

While most suspects have been apprehended, the Sheriff's office still actively seeks the whereabouts of others connected with the ring. In their public statement, they called upon the community for assistance in locating Juan Molas, Kevin Calderon, Jacobo Giron, and five additional unidentified suspects. “The High Impact Team’s efforts have made a significant impact on public safety and retail crime prevention, leading to the recovery of hundreds of thousands of dollars in stolen property,” Jonsen added via the Santa Clara County Sheriff's Office press release.
