An 18-year-old man has been detained by Seattle police in connection with a spree of violent convenience store robberies that have gripped the city since last year. The Seattle Police Department's Blotter reports that this individual is suspected to have been part of a group responsible for over 80 violent incidents across Seattle and King County in 2024. The arrest occurred yesterday after robbery detectives, who have been actively piecing together evidence, finally developed probable cause to make an arrest for 10 counts of Robbery in the First Degree.
The primary suspect was located at a trade school in South Seattle, and officers strategically decided to wait to apprehend him until he exited the premises. However, upon seeing the authorities, the suspect attempted to flee. Despite the suspect's efforts to evade capture by dropping his backpack during the chase—a move quickly countered by his associates, who grabbed the bag and retreated into the school—the police were persistent, if not as tactful as to ideally avoid splitting their focus between apprehension and securing potential evidence.
A 19-year-old, another suspect and school attendee, who was found with the backpack, resisted arrest and assaulted three policemen. Inside the bag, officers recovered an unserialized firearm, also known as a ghost gun, believed to have belonged to the first suspect. The individual, with a rap sheet including six felony convictions and a current ban from firearms possession, was arrested for Rendering Criminal Assistance and Unlawful Possession of a Firearm.
Police didn't just stop there, as they also pursued a third suspect, 19 a student at the school, who tried to run from the scene. This suspect, too, had ties to the recovered backpack and had an outstanding warrant for Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, stemming from King County Juvenile Court on charges of Robbery in the First Degree – Display of a deadly weapon. The chase concluded with his arrest, and he may now face additional charges for obstructing law enforcement, if not further complicate an already complex legal situation.
In the aftermath of these arrests, robbery detectives commended the skilled CRG team involved. In a statement obtained by the SPD Blotter, they were lauded for their "patient and diligent in their duties in getting a violent suspect off the streets." The investigation is ongoing, and detectives have indicated that additional charges for Obstructing a Law Enforcement Officer may be filed against each of the suspects as the full details of the case continue to unfold.
