The State Route 410 has been brought to a standstill as both directions near the White River Bridge have been shut down. This traffic disruption follows an incident where a semi-truck collided with the bridge, leading to an extensive closure. According to KIRO 7, the accident occurred between Buckley and Enumclaw, but details on the cause of the crash have not been disclosed. Fortunately, no injuries were reported in the collision.
The bridge's current condition is under scrutiny after the semi impacted several overhead support beams early in the morning. Crews are now evaluating the extent of the damage sustained. As reported by FOX 13 Seattle, the crash happened at approximately 9:30 a.m., leading to the blockage and closure of the roadway in its entirety.
Complicating the situation is the bridge's age—now in its 76th year, it surpasses the typically expected service life of 75 years for similar structures. A latest inspection in April deemed the bridge to be in fair condition as part of the State's two-year inspection cycle. This was further elaborated by KING 5, which noted that the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) will keep the bridge closed indefinitely until a thorough assessment and necessary next steps are determined.
Road users are urged to seek alternate routes as authorities have not yet provided a timeline for when the bridge will reopen. The disruption is expected to affect travelers between the towns of Buckley and Enumclaw. To help commuters navigate these sudden changes, KING 5 suggests utilizing their traffic resources for guidance along western Washington roads.
