
An unfortunate event unfolded Sunday evening when an unoccupied vehicle rolled into a crowd gathered at a community festival in East Liberty, Pittsburgh. According to a report obtained by WTAE, six individuals, including five women and one man, were injured around 6:30 p.m. during the East Liberty Black Arts Soul-Steppin', Boots-on-the-Ground Wellness Festival, Harambee Style and Parade. The Pittsburgh public safety authorities responded promptly to calls for assistance at the intersection of Broad Street and Centre Avenue.
Witnesses described the scene, with one stating that the vehicle started moving unexpectedly as the driver had stepped away. The car owner was at the scene and profusely cooperative with the police, explaining that he thought the car was securely in park. While attempting to understand the chaos, festival-goers saw the vehicle heading towards them, and it came to a rest only after colliding with the festival attendees.
The impact of the incident resulted in five of the injured being dispatched to local hospitals, as reported by WPXI. Among them, three were considered to be in serious but stable condition, and two others were in stable condition. A sixth victim was evaluated at the site and declined transportation to the hospital. Authorities presently believe the event to be an accident.
