A box truck ended up on its side and a utility pole was sheared off Tuesday after it collided with a car on Duffy Road in Brady Township, killing at least one person and shutting down a stretch of PA Route 8. Emergency crews swarmed the scene as aerial footage showed the overturned truck and debris scattered across the roadway.
Local emergency crews were dispatched to the two-vehicle collision, and the response led to the closure of part of Route 8, according to WISR. Aerial footage from Sky 4 showed the box truck resting on its side near the crash site, and what appeared to be shredded paper strewn across Duffy Road, according to WTAE. The crash also damaged a utility pole along the road, leaving repair crews with more work to do once the scene was cleared.
WTAE reports that at least one person was killed in the crash, though the identities of those involved have not been released. Pittsburgh's Action News 4, WTAE's broadcast affiliate, said it was still working to gather additional details and would provide updates as they become available, per the station's report.
A Rural Stretch With a Troubled History
The Route 8 and Duffy Road intersection has seen serious wrecks before. In August 2016, a Slippery Rock motorcyclist was killed in a crash at the same intersection, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. Years earlier, in November 2012, a car passenger died along the same stretch after a deer struck by another vehicle was launched through a windshield, as reported by CBS Pittsburgh.
More recently, in August 2025, a police pursuit in Brady Township ended near Duffy Road when a fleeing driver drifted off Route 8 and crashed through a historic fence at The Old Stone House, a landmark property sitting directly alongside the highway, according to Butler Radio. Just last December, a two-vehicle crash near the Dollar General on Route 8 in Brady Township stalled traffic and required emergency traffic control, per the Butler Eagle. The same report also discussed traffic along Route 8 in this part of northern Butler County.
