For locals who rely on the Smithfield office of the N.C. Division of Motor Vehicles, a temporary pause in service is on the horizon due to scheduled maintenance and repairs. According to a release from the North Carolina Department of Transportation, the facility at 3783 U.S. Hwy. 310 S. will not be in operation today and tomorrow, and is expected to resume its regular hours starting at 7 a.m. on Thursday.
During the closure, those with previously scheduled commitments have been rescheduled, nonetheless, walk-in customers are not left to fend for themselves they can visit alternative locations in Clayton, Goldsboro, or Garner which will open their doors from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. on the days in question; these branches are located at 1665 Old U.S. Hwy. 70 W. (Shotwell Station), 701 W. Grantham St., and 222 Forest Hills Dr. (Forest Hills Shopping Center), respectively, offering similar services as the Smithfield office.
The DMV also takes this interruption as an opportunity to remind the public of the availability of online services for a variety of needs. They encourage customers to visit NCDMV.gov to see if their driver license affairs such as renewals and more can be addressed digitally, potentially saving a trip to the physical office location altogether.
