A high-speed chase unfolded on the streets of Petaluma last Friday, as police officers pursued a DUI suspect over a five-mile stretch. According to a social media post by the Petaluma Police Department, at about 6:07 PM, officers responded to reports of a vehicle obstructing traffic on Payran Street. The driver, found alone in the car, was later identified as 60-year-old Sonoma resident Kathleen Storrs.
When police attempted to approach the vehicle, Storrs sped off, leading officers on a pursuit that saw her run multiple red lights and vary her speed from 3 to 50 MPH, creating hazardous conditions for other road users. In light of the unfolding situation, aerial support from the Sonoma County Sheriff's Helicopter "Henry-1" came into play, providing real-time updates that aided the ground units in the chase.
The attempt to flee law enforcement ended abruptly when Storrs turned onto a dead-end street. Police conducted a high-risk traffic stop, positioning patrol vehicles strategically to block her car and proceed with the arrest. The ensuing investigation revealed that Storrs was driving under the influence, as her blood alcohol content was measured at .21%, well above California's legal limit. Additionally, methamphetamine was discovered inside the vehicle.
Storrs is facing multiple charges, including evading a peace officer, DUI, and possession of a controlled substance. She was booked into the Sonoma County Jail following the incident.
