A teacher from Explorer K-8 School in Spring Hill found himself on the wrong side of the law after crashing his vehicle into the school fence. According to official reports released by the Hernando County Sheriff's Office, deputies arrived at the scene on Tuesday, following the incident that involved Philip Scire, a teacher at the school. Reports indicate that Scire was found unconscious behind the wheel around 11:43 a.m., the vehicle in gear, with alcohol containers within reach.

The first to respond to the crash was the school’s resource deputy who discovered the incident. The deputy made a contact with Scire who had driven his sedan into a rear parking lot fence. At the local hospital, a Traffic Unit deputy detected an alcohol odor emanating from Scire. Despite numerous attempts, Scire refrained from providing consent for a blood draw to determine his exact level of intoxication. His refusal to submit to a blood test was documented amid the proceedings following the crash.

Scire’s brush with the law isn’t his first encounter. The educator was previously arrested on a charge of DUI in Broward County in 2014. This repeat instance led to him facing a driving under the influence charge yet again. Once he received medical clearance, Scire was booked into the Hernando County Detention Center with a set bond at $1,000.

The circumstances of the crash, taking place during the daytime at an educational institution, mark a concerning event for the school community. Scire’s presence on campus, behind the wheel and under the influence, raises serious questions on the enforcement of template measures on educational employees. As a person tasked with the role of educating young minds, the responsibility to uphold certain standards becomes inherently crucial. The school has yet to release a statement regarding Scire’s future at Explorer K-8.
