Heads up, nature enthusiasts and weekend escapade planners: Square Lake Park is shutting down for a seasonal facelift this fall. Starting after Labor Day weekend, on September 8, the popular recreation spot will be closed off to the public until early November. According to Washington County's official announcement, the closure is necessary to carry out enhancements to the park's roadway, parking facilities, and footpaths.
Those with boats on the lake should mark their calendars. The park's boat access will also be sealed off come September 8. If getting your boat out before the park's gates close for two months sounds like a wise idea, better to act swiftly. Only until September 7 can you make use of this access—and after that, you're going to have to find an alternative route, Washington County advised. They've dispatched a clear message: "If you wish to use the access to remove your boat, please do so prior to the closure of the park."
This renovation isn't just a superficial sprucing up. It's an investment in making the park's infrastructure sturdier and more accommodating for future visitors. While regulars might have to adjust their outdoor routines temporarily, the end result is poised to be beneficial for all. To look at it practically, a little patience could go a long way in enjoying a more accessible and welcoming park experience once the cool winds of November roll in.
While the park is off-limits, officials are guiding visitors to explore alternative areas for their outdoor recreation. With a flourish of public green spaces in the region, residents won't be short on spots for picnic spreads and nature jaunts. But make no mistake, the sooner the park reopens with its planned improvements, the better for those fall foliage photo-ops. And remember, as Washington County put forward, "After September 8, you will need to use a different access."
