The City of St. Augustine Community Redevelopment Agency and the Lincolnville Community Redevelopment Area are set to celebrate the Fountain of Youth Elks Lodge's new look with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on August 19 at 10 a.m. The historic lodge located at 100 Washington Street has undergone a significant $1.3 million rehabilitation project. Following the ceremony, guests are invited to take a self-guided tour of the property and check out the upgrades made to the interior.
A significant portion of the funding for this project was generously provided by the African American Cultural and Historical Grant, which contributed $891,000 to the restoration efforts. The Elks Lodge, deeply embedded in the fabric of Lincolnville's cultural heritage, now boasts a range of updates designed to not simply preserve its history but to fully bring the institution into the present day. According to an announcement by the City of St. Augustine, improvements include the repair and repurposing of its famous jalousie windows, and overhauls to all mechanical and electrical components.
Accessibility has been a key consideration in this renovation, with an elevator being installed to ensure ADA compliance, fostering a more inclusive environment. The project also addressed critical structural stabilization, the scourge of Floridian buildings: flood mitigation, and gave the lodge a fresh new look with exterior and interior paint work.
All individuals interested in witnessing the transformation and participating in the ribbon-cutting event are warmly invited to join the celebration.
