
The St. Louis area is under a Heat Advisory, with heat index values expected to reach up to 108 degrees and an increased risk of heat-related illnesses. The advisory covers south central and southwest Illinois, as well as east central and southeast Missouri, from noon today until 8 p.m. CDT Monday, according to the National Weather Service.
Residents are advised to expect hot temperatures and high humidity, wear lightweight and loose-fitting clothing, and take frequent breaks in shaded or air-conditioned areas. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration also recommends limiting strenuous outdoor activities.
The United Way of Greater Saint Louis (800-427-4626 or 2-1-1 from a landline) and Cool Down Saint Louis (314-241-7668) are offering resources such as cooling center information and energy assistance. The advisory reminds residents that young children and pets should never be left in vehicles.
According to the National Weather Service, tonight’s forecast calls for mostly clear skies with a low around 76 degrees, followed by sunny and hot conditions through the weekend, with highs near 99 degrees and heat index values up to 106. There is a chance of thunderstorms for portions of the area late Monday night through Thursday, including a 30% chance on Wednesday.
