A man has succumbed to his injuries more than a week following a stabbing incident in Carondelet. The victim, identified as 50-year-old Elmer Murphy, passed away on Sunday after undergoing complications from injuries sustained in the late-July attack.
Details of the incident, described in an article from the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department (SLMPD), note that District 1 officers responded to a call on July 29, just after 6:00 AM, in the 100 block of Fassen Street. They found Murphy wounded and lying in the streets of the 200 block of Fassen Street. Despite being injured from an stabbing, he was conscious and breathing and conveyed to officers that he knew his assailant. The reason behind the stabbing appeared to stem from an altercation between the two individuals.
Initially listed in critical but stable condition, Murphy was hospitalized soon after the incident but was released on August 2. Five days later, he returned to the hospital with complications related to his stabbing injuries. His condition worsened, leading to his death on August 10, as conveyed by the SLMPD’s Homicide Division after being contacted by the Medical Examiner.
The autopsy report confirmed that Murphy died due to complications from his original injuries sustained in July's altercation. The exact nature of these complications has not been publicly disclosed. The case has presumably been escalated within the SLMPD’s Homicide Division, given the tragic outcome.
Up-to-date information on the status of the investigation or details about the suspect have not been released.
