Following a distress call, an officer-involved shooting in St. Marys, Georgia, resulted in the death of 27-year-old Gregory Paige of Jacksonville, Florida. According to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI), the incident occurred on Sunday when St. Marys Police Department officers and Camden County Sheriff’s Office deputies were attempting to arrest Paige at the Cumberland Oaks Apartment complex after a 911 caller alleged Paige made threats of violence and behaved aggressively towards her.
The situation escalated as law enforcement officials interacted with Paige at the apartment's doorway; during this encounter, Paige was struck by gunfire when two St. Marys Police Department officers discharged their weapons—though the GBI's release did not specify what prompted the officers to shoot. Paige was transported to Southeast Georgia Health System Camden Hospital, and he was pronounced dead. Officers were not injured in this confrontation—the narrative provided by GBI is still unfolding as their independent investigation continues.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) is investigating the fatal shooting, working to piece together what led to the incident through witness interviews, forensic evidence, and a timeline of events. The GBI will forward its findings to the Brunswick District Attorney’s Office for review.
