In an effort to combine environmental stewardship with local pride, the City of Tampa is marking 813 Day by spearheading a river clean-up initiative on the Hillsborough River. The Solid Waste Department's Litter Skimmer Trash Boat, a vessel dedicated to collecting garbage from the city's waterways, will be the centerpiece of this cooperative effort between the city, local environmental organizations, and businesses. According to an article on the City of Tampa's official website, Keep Tampa Bay Beautiful is among the partners contributing to the event.

Set for tomorrow, the event welcomes community members to jump in and assist with the clean-up efforts. Interested participants can sign up online in advance and should plan to meet at 10:00 A.M. at Urban Kai. Situated just outside of Armature Works, Urban Kai will serve as a launching point for volunteers embarking on their litter-picking journeys by water. Rental options, on hand through the aforementioned outfitter, range from one to three hours and include stand-up paddleboards, single kayaks, and double kayaks. Plus, for those with their own gear, BYOBoard is an option that comes without a fee.

Special incentives are being offered to encourage participation. A promotional discount is available for those who need to rent equipment for the event. The magic code 813day unlocks a $5 discount on watercraft rentals.
