Commuters heading through Calcasieu Parish should anticipate a slight delay on their journey as the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) has announced a scheduled lane closure on Interstate 10. The left lanes going eastbound and westbound at Coone Gully Bridge, noted at Mile Marker 9.5, will be non-operational starting from 7 p.m. last night, August 6, and the closure will continue through early morning at 6 a.m. today, August 7.
The temporary disruption is part of an essential operation to install sheet piles, components necessary for the construction and maintenance of infrastructure in the area, and even though the work is bound to cause some slight inconvenience, it is a crucial step in ensuring the longevity and safety of the bridge structure. DOTD urges those traveling in the vicinity to maintain a level of caution while the crews are at work; the construction site is not just a zone of alteration but a space where men and women earn their living, facing the rush of oncoming traffic as they lay the groundwork for our travels.
A safety reminder issued in a statement obtained by the DOTD stresses the importance of patience and asks travelers to "please drive with caution through the construction site and be on the lookout for work crews and their equipment." The advisory also extends to local residents who may be in proximity to the active construction zone, encouraging them to remain vigilant whether driving, walking, or biking nearby.
