On Sunday morning in Brooklyn’s Crown Heights neighborhood, a shooting took place during a gathering at Taste of the City Lounge, leaving three people dead and eight others injured. As reported by Gothamist, the NYPD stated that the incident occurred around 3:30 a.m., and more than 30 shell casings were recovered at the scene near Franklin Avenue and Carroll Street.

According to a New York Post report, the victims pronounced dead were all male, aged 27 and 35, with the age of the third victim not yet determined. In responding to calls, officers descended upon the location before 3:30 a.m. NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch shared at a press briefing that the victims' ages ranged from 27 to 61, with both men and women among the casualties.

NYPD personnel secured the scene. No arrests have been made, and the suspects’ identities remain unknown in the hours following the shooting. A firearm was recovered nearby, at Bedford Avenue and Eastern Parkway, as the NYPD begins piecing together the events of the morning.

Commissioner Jessica Tisch sought to contextualize the incident within the city's overall crime trends. Speaking to the media, Tisch stated, "We have the lowest number of shooting incidents and shooting victims seven months into the year that we’ve seen on record in the city of New York." She went on to describe the incident as "an anomaly" and a "terrible thing that happened this morning," according to statements reported by Gothamist.

Taste of the City Lounge, which offers American and Caribbean food along with a full bar and hookah service, has experienced gun-related incidents in the past. A previous shooting occurred at the location in November 2024, resulting in non-fatal injuries. The lounge is located less than half a mile from the Brooklyn Museum.
