In Tipton County, recent car chases have led to multiple arrests and the detention of illegal weapons, highlighting a surge in vehicular pursuits by law enforcement. According to Action News 5, on August 10, a man named Jordan Ruble was arrested after leading Munford Police on a high-speed chase. Despite losing two tires to stop sticks near Highway 51 and Simmons Road, Ruble continued fleeing until his car became inoperable in Millington, where the chase concluded.
In a separate incident on July 29, two teenagers were apprehended after fleeing from deputies. Reported by WREG, 18-year-olds Alexander Lee and Sheldyn Edwards Jr. were taken into custody following a chase that began near the Lauderdale County line and concluded in the city of Ripley, with Lee attempting to escape on foot after the vehicle stopped.
Lee has been charged with felony evading by a motor vehicle and resisting arrest. His passenger, Edwards, faces charges related to unlawful possession and tampering with a weapon, specifically an altered AR-15 style rifle that had been converted to function as a fully automatic firearm. According to a social media post from Sheriff Shannon Beasley, Edwards also possessed additional ammunition and accessories for another rifle at the time of arrest.
Sheriff Shannon Beasley expressed his concern for the young men's choices, stating, "I am thankful for the good work by our deputies by getting this illegal weapon off the streets," and added that "These two young men are starting their adulthood off on the wrong foot," as told to the public via social media. Lee was released on a $30,000 bond, whereas Edwards remains in custody. The law enforcement's collaborative efforts were underlined, including participation from the Lauderdale County Sheriff's Office and Ripley Police Department.
