A tragic incident unfolded at Eleven Mile State Park in Colorado when a group of paddleboarders and a dog were caught in an unexpected windstorm. Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW) authorities report that during the storm, which hit around 1 p.m. last Friday, the paddleboarders were thrown into the water, leading to a dire search and rescue operation.

Initial recovery efforts were successful for two of the individuals; one person, equipped with a life jacket, swam safely to shore, while CPW rangers rescued another who was still tethered to their paddleboard, also wearing a life vest. However, according to Colorado Parks and Wildlife, the third paddleboarder, who was not wearing a life jacket, was located only just before midnight by CPW's Marine Evidence Recovery Team after an intense 11-hour search.

Assisting in the search were teams from Hartsel Fire and the Park County Sheriff’s Office. The ordeal ended somberly with the recovery of the missing paddleboarder and the dog. The identity of the deceased will be released following an investigation by the Park County Coroner. In a poignant reminder of the dangers that can arise even in seemingly serene settings, CPW has issued a strong recommendation urging all those engaging in water activities, including boating, kayaking, paddleboarding, and swimming in Colorado's outdoor spaces, to wear life jackets.
