Two California Highway Patrol (CHP) officers were hospitalized after their vehicle was involved in a rollover crash on the 14 Freeway in Palmdale on a recent Saturday. The incident occurred at around 6:45 p.m. on the southbound lanes near Barrel Springs Road. The details surrounding the cause of the accident remain unclear, but it was reported by ABC7 that the officers' vehicle was changing lanes when the crash happened.
Immediately following the accident, video surfaced on social media showing the CHP patrol car rolling over to eventually come to rest on its side. Witnesses at the scene quickly came to aid to help extricate the officers from their overturned vehicle. Both officers were transported to Antelope Valley Hospital as a precautionary measure. According to a statement obtained by KCAL News, neither officer is believed to have sustained major injuries.
Subsequently, a SigAlert was issued around 7:20 p.m., which necessitated the diversion of southbound traffic off at Angeles Forest Highway to facilitate the investigation and clearing of the accident site. The road was reopened just before 9:10 p.m., easing the flow of traffic which had been affected due to the crash. The CHP confirmed that their vehicle was the only one involved in the incident.
The crash remains under investigation as authorities seek to piece together the events that led to the rollover. "Witnesses reported that the vehicle crashed into dirt and overturned on the right shoulder," CHP Officer Elizabeth Kravig told City News Service. This information suggests that while there were no other vehicles directly involved, the patrol officers' vehicle made sudden contact with the roadside terrain, ultimately causing it to overturn. The investigation is ongoing, and further details will be disclosed as they become available.
