Local officials reported a major incident on Monday in the Shadow Hills area where a head-on collision left two people dead. According to the Los Angeles Fire Department, the accident occurred at approximately 3:45 p.m. on Wentworth Street, just west of Wheatland Avenue, as stated in an alert by LAFD. Responders found both individuals fatally injured and trapped within the twisted remains of their vehicles.
Details surrounding the collision suggested that, for reasons still under investigation, one of the vehicles crossed the median line and collided with the opposing car. The Los Angeles Police Department's Valley Traffic Division is handling the ongoing case, as noted by CBS Los Angeles. The identities of the deceased, described by investigators as a man in his 70s and a woman in her 50s, had not been released at the time of the reports.
Aerial footage from Sky5 captured shortly after the incident showed a distressing scene with two heavily damaged cars that appeared to have smashed into each other directly, causing significant destruction and roadway obstruction. Crews on site worked diligently to manage the scene and extricate the bodies from the wreckage. KTLA provided a visual account of the emergency response and the subsequent traffic disruptions.
No further injuries were reported. According to the LAFD, additional information related to this incident and media inquiries are being directed to the LAPD Valley Traffic Division, as the puzzle of what led to this fatal encounter between two paths on an otherwise ordinary afternoon remains to be solved.
