Two young men from Thibodaux are facing serious charges following an armed robbery that took place earlier this month. Tyrone Carter Jr., 19, and Chance Fletcher, 18, were arrested for their alleged involvement in the incident, which has drawn considerable attention to the area of Karla Drive in Thibodaux, where the crime occurred, as reported by the Lafourche Parish Sheriff's Office.
According to an article published by WWLTV, the victim of the robbery had arrived on Karla Drive intending to sell a smartphone. Disguised intentions lingered as the two men approached the victim's vehicle, the robbery unfolding shortly after 5 p.m. on August 7. "One man grabbed the phone and pointed a gun at the victim while the other took a duffel bag from the back seat," WWLTV detailed the sequence of events that caught the victim amidst a dangerous exchange.
It didn't take long for investigators to identify Carter and Fletcher as suspects, and they were quick to obtain arrest warrants. The WDSU coverage notes that Carter was found at his residence on August 8, where he made an attempt to evade law enforcement. The arrest led to finding a loaded handgun, along with body armor, several smartphones, and ammunition, all locked away running somewhere into the back of his residence.
Both Carter's and Fletcher's detentions have been logged, with Carter's bail set at $260,000, facing charges which include " armed robbery with use of a firearm, unlawful use of body armor and obstruction of justice," according to the Lafourche Parish Sheriff's Office's website. In contrast, Fletcher, arrested later on August 14, stands charged with one count of armed robbery with the use of a firearm, his bail set at a lower $250,000. Both young men, plucked from the normalcy of day-to-day life, now contemplate their futures within the confines of the Lafourche Parish Correctional Complex, as Sheriff Craig Webre stated that the investigation remains ongoing and additional charges are possible.
