As mid-August approaches, Union County property tax bills will begin arriving by mail, with digital access also available for those who prefer it. According to Union County’s Tax Administration office, bills are sent directly to property owners or to mortgage companies that manage escrow payments for property taxes.
Approximately 50,040 property owners whose taxes are paid through escrow will receive a courtesy statement instead of a bill. For the 2025–2026 fiscal year, the county tax rate is set at 43.42 cents per $100 of assessed property value. A detailed breakdown of this rate and related financial allocations is available on the county’s budget webpage, as linked in the announcement from Union County.
Although the official due date is September 1, residents are encouraged to pay their property taxes by January 5, 2026, to avoid interest charges. After this deadline, a 2% interest penalty will be applied in January, followed by an additional 0.75% each month thereafter. Unpaid taxes may also be publicly advertised in the local newspaper, which includes an additional advertising fee.
Recognizing that financial circumstances can vary, the Tax Office offers payment arrangement options for those in need, but these must be set up by December 15, with an initial payment required at the time the arrangement is made. For more information on available payment plans or how to use the four payment vouchers included in non-escrowed tax bills, residents can contact the Tax Office at 704.283.3848.
Residents of certain municipalities, including Waxhaw and Wingate, receive a consolidated bill that combines both county and municipal taxes into a single invoice. Through coordinated efforts by the Union County Tax Administration, this system provides a streamlined process and a single point of contact for property tax-related questions and concerns.
Payment options include mailing a check, paying in person at the Union County Government Center, dropping it off in the designated box, or calling to process a payment using e-checks, credit, or debit cards. These methods may include additional processing fees. Payments can also be made through the county’s website, where processing fees may apply.
