The University of Tennessee seems to be playing its own financial version of tackle football, as season ticket price increases are on the horizon for Vols fans. According to WVLT, the cost for the 2026 season will see an uptick with a “moderate” 4% average increase. Adding to the financial play, a state and local sales tax and a city entertainment tax of 13.75% will apply to tickets, which, without the taxes, range from $429 to $2,974 per seat.
Further tackling fans' wallets, WVLT reports that the university will impose a 10% talent fee on top of the ticket cost, a strategy they initiated last year. With the determined play to upgrade its facilities, as witnessed in February's announcement of renovations to Food City Center, fans are now facing a 6% increase for other Tennessee sports tickets, too.
It's not all defense against rising costs, however, as the Vols' Athletic Director Danny White seems to be attempting an offensive strategy to ease the financial hit. WBIR noted that season ticket holders have a 10-month payment plan option for spreading out the increased fees. White, via a tweet, pushed this message forward to fans.
Meanwhile, discussing the sold-out streak of the Vols' season tickets, 247Sports revealed a waiting list nearing 24,000 fans and a 97.8% renewal rate from the 2024 season. In the email to season-ticket holders, White mentioned, "As always, ticket and Tennessee Fund contributions will directly support our student-athletes and remain essential to the operational success of Tennessee Athletics."
Adding intrigue to the Vols' playbook is the unknown future conference scheduling by the SEC and a potential move to nine conference games. This leaves Tennessee with only three non-conference games scheduled for 2026 as of now. Despite the price hikes and financial strategizing, fans are sure to keep their eyes on the ball, especially with head coach Josh Heupel's impressive 25-4 Neyland Stadium record under their belt. The Vols are gearing up to kick off against Syracuse in Atlanta in mere days, marking the start of the 2025 season.
