Heads up, Colorado Springs road warriors, your nightly commute might hit a snag early next month. Due to the I-25 Acceleration/Deceleration Lanes Project, northbound I-25 is gearing up for some overnight lane closures. The Colorado Department of Transportation, together with SEMA Construction, Inc., has scheduled these closures to facilitate the placement of girders on the bridge over Ellston Street, in an area stretching from Mile Point 144 near Fillmore Street to MP 146 by Garden of the Gods Road. If you're planning to drive through this section on the night of Tuesday, Sept. 2, you'll want to budget some extra travel time.

According to CDOT, the lane closures will begin at 7 p.m., at which point the northbound right lane will be closed down until 6 a.m. the following morning. Things tighten up even more between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m., when both the right and middle lanes will be shut. This will reduce traffic to a single lane, likely causing delays for nighttime travelers. Additionally, Sinton Trail will be out of commission at Ellston Street, directly under I-25, from 7 p.m. that evening to 7 a.m. the next day.

The lane closures are part of an ongoing project that aims to improve the interstate's functionality and safety. Motorists are encouraged to gather information about weather forecasts and anticipated travel impacts before hitting the road. CDOT provides ample resources for drivers to check current road conditions, get the latest project information, and even sign up for text alerts by texting IMPACTS to 844-591-9901.
