In a recent enforcement action underscoring ongoing challenges with illegal firearms, Vallejo Police Department officers stopped a vehicle for expired registration and uncovered more than just paperwork problems. According to an announcement from the Vallejo Police Department's social media account, the traffic stop occurred last Friday near Benicia Road and Laurel Street, where members of the department's patrol division pulled over a Chevrolet Cobalt.
During their interaction with the driver, who was found to have no valid driver's license, law enforcement officials discovered a loaded handgun concealed with care, featuring an obliterated serial number and equipped with a large-capacity magazine. The handgun was found under a seat during an inventory search of the car before towing. The additions of an imitation firearm and a black mask found inside the vehicle further complicated the scene for the driver and his juvenile passenger.
The driver, whose age prohibits firearm possession, faced an immediate arrest and subsequent booking at Solano County Jail. According to the Vallejo Police Department, the man now faces multiple charges stemming from the possession of the illegal firearm and related offenses.
