Residents of Peters Township in Washington County were jolted awake by the eruption of a water main break early this morning. This incident sent geysers of water into the air, resulting in substantial damage to local infrastructure, including a once sturdy portion of McCombs Road.

A couple was jolted from their sleep after a water main break caused serious damage to their historic home, according to a report from WXPI. The sudden flooding turned their peaceful night into chaos, leaving them to deal with a wrecked property and uncertain next steps.

Kimberly Tucker, a resident whose 170-year-old home sustained severe water damage, likened the initial clamor to "a freight train in her front yard." As per her interview with WTAE, she detailed how the water assailed her home with unyielding ferocity, breaching through chimneys and inundating the historically rich interior. "The water just poured through the chimneys," Tucker said. "So the only thing I can think about since rain is pouring in is, 'Oh my God, the woodwork is going to be ruined. The hardwood floors are going to be ruined." Tucker and her family are in the process of having the damage assessed.

Water service in the area has been shut off, but it’s still unclear how many residents are affected. American Water has not yet released an update.
