Residents in the District of Columbia and surrounding regions are bracing for potential impacts as a Coastal Flood Advisory remains in effect until 11 AM EDT today. According to the National Weather Service, waterfront areas, particularly the Southwest Waterfront at the DC Seafood Market, may experience up to half a foot of tidal flooding, with the high tide at Washington Channel expected at 8:42 AM and again at 9:12 PM.
As sunny skies dominate today's weather with a high near 84, preparatory measures are being urged for areas susceptible to flooding, especially low-lying regions near Fletchers Boathouse and Roosevelt Island which face risks of inundation, even despite that the weather will likely be calm during the evening and with winds transitioning from the south at 5 to 9 mph in the morning to a calmer breeze at night.
The situation is similar across the Chesapeake Bay and along the Tidal Potomac River, where moderate tidal flooding is anticipated in sensitive shorelines through Sunday. In response to the anticipated conditions, a Coastal Flood Warning has been issued for Anne Arundel County through Sunday morning, highlighting the pressing need for residents and local authorities to stay alert and act accordingly to safeguard properties and infrastructure.
Aside from flood-related concerns, the upcoming week's forecast suggests a return to mostly sunny days, with temperatures ranging comfortably in the low to mid-80s. Residents and visitors to the region may yet bask in the warm late-summer weather, provided they remain mindful of the sporadic chances for showers and thunderstorms, particularly on Sunday afternoon and early evening when precipitation chances peak at 30%, though the weather is forecasted to be mostly clear with gentle winds during the nights unveiling a mostly stellar canopy above the nation's capital.
