
On Tuesday night, a 19-year-old suspect was taken into custody by officers from District E-5 (Roslindale/West Roxbury) in relation to a recent incident involving gunfire in West Roxbury. Identified as Linton Young, the West Roxbury resident was arrested on Crown Point Drive, following a warrant issued by the local district court for multiple offenses including assault with a dangerous weapon and unlawful possession of a firearm. According to the Boston Police Department's official website, Young is slated to face the judicial process at the West Roxbury District Court.
The list of charges is extensive, encompassing assault with a dangerous weapon (firearm), discharge of a firearm within 500 feet of a building, unlawful possession of a firearm, second and subsequent offense, unlawful possession of ammunition, second offense, and carrying a loaded firearm on the second offense. The suspect is also charged with malicious damage to a motor vehicle, and willful, malicious, or wanton injury to person property. It was around 6:34 PM on July 31, when officers were called to the scene at 5245 Washington Street where shell casings were found, but luckily, no victims were discovered.
The incident drew attention to the persistent issue of gun violence in urban communities, with ballistic evidence discovered on the street and damage from the shots fired visible on the facade of a building at 4278 Washington Street. While little information is available regarding the motive or circumstances that led up to the shooting event, the Boston Police Department has actively pursued the case, resulting in the apprehension of Young.
