The streets of Wilmington witnessed another firearm incident last week when police officers, responding to an unrelated complaint, spotted and subsequently arrested 38-year-old Charles Andrews for firearms violations.
It was around 12:48 a.m. on July 30, as officers were attending to a matter on the 500 block of West 4th Street, their attention was drawn to Andrews, who appeared to be intoxicated and was carrying a loaded 9mm handgun, according to reports from the Wilmington Police. The arrest was executed without further incident, ensuring no additional risk to public safety.
Andrews now faces charges that reflect the severity of the situation: Carrying a Concealed Deadly Weapon, Possession of a Firearm while Under the Influence, and Public Intoxication. Following the arrest, he was arraigned at Justice of the Peace Court 11.
Justice has its price, and for Andrews, it is set at $5,501 cash-only bail—this being the sum he must furnish to secure his release from the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution where he currently remains detained.
