A 27-year-old woman, Yarla Valeriano-Perez, was arrested after a hit-and-run that seriously injured a 13-year-old boy in south Las Vegas. The accident happened on Wednesday while the boy was getting off a school bus on Amigo Street and Abbeyfield Rose Drive. He sustained a broken shoulder and arm, sprains to his knee and ankle, and severe road rash on his left leg and back, according to News 3 Las Vegas.
A school bus had its red flashing stop signs on when Valeriano-Perez, driving a gray sedan, hit a child who was then thrown onto the roadway. After the crash, she left the scene. Her car, with major windshield damage, helped the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department locate her.
Yarla Valeriano-Perez was involved in a crash and left the scene but later told detectives, "She said she was scared/paranoid, so she drove away. She realized she shouldn't have, but she was scared," as mentioned by News 3 Las Vegas. Police said she did not appear to be impaired. Her bail was set at $300,000, and she is in custody with a court appearance on August 26. The crash caused road closures, and authorities reminded drivers to be careful around school zones and buses, as per Hoodline.
