A 13-year-old was injured in a hit-and-run crash in south Las Vegas on Wednesday. Police said the child was struck by a car while getting off a school bus around 4:22 p.m. near Amigo Street and Abbeyfield Rose Drive. The driver of a gray 2023 Honda Accord did not stop for the school bus and kept going north on Amigo Street after the crash, according to FOX5 Vegas.
A teenager was hit while crossing Amigo Street on Thursday. Police said the driver, 27-year-old Yarla Valeriano-Perez, did not appear to be impaired. Valeriano-Perez left the scene but later returned and was arrested on hit-and-run charges. Authorities later updated that the teen’s injuries are considered substantial, as reported by News 3 Las Vegas.
The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department said police arrested Valeriano-Perez after a crash that caused major road closures at the intersection, as per KTNV. “As the 13-year-old boy was crossing Amigo Street, the driver of a Honda sedan failed to stop for the stop signs on the school bus, and a collision occurred when the front of the Honda contacted the juvenile, projecting him onto the roadway,” as mentioned by FOX5 Vegas. Authorities reminded drivers to use caution around school buses and in school zones.
