Wright County's Maple Lake area residents looking to dispose of yard waste will need to hold off for a couple of weeks. The Wright County Compost & Recycling Center has announced that due to a paving project at its temporary facility, located at 5538 85th St. NW, it won't be accepting any brush or yard waste beginning today (Aug. 20) and this will continue through Friday, Aug. 29. In a statement released by the county, it was noted, "We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause."
The temporary halt in green waste services is a result of infrastructure improvements to better serve the community in the long term. Fortunately for recyclers, the paving process won't affect other operations. The recycling center will carry on with the acceptance of other recyclable materials as per usual during this period. According to the county's announcement, the inconvenience is regrettable, but necessary.
For residents looking for alternatives during this two-week pause, the Wright County website offers resources and locations that can serve as temporary destinations for yard waste. It is advised that individuals contact alternative sites directly to confirm acceptance policies and hours of operation. The county is urging residents to make use of these options while the usual services are unavailable.
As the upgrade concludes right before the close of August, the county expects to resume normal brush and yard waste disposal services promptly after the paving is finished. Residents eager to return to eco-friendly disposal habits will have their pathway cleared come the end of August; however, with summer winding down, the timing may leave many with an accumulation of organic debris from their seasonal gardening and lawn care efforts.
