In a significant blow to the local drug trade, the Sonoma County Sheriff's Narcotics Unit seized 500 pounds of methamphetamine in San Jose during a raid conducted last Saturday. The bust is part of ongoing efforts to fully dismantle a sophisticated drug trafficking organization with roots stretching across Sonoma County, according to a social media post from the Sonoma Sheriff.
As detectives were about to execute a search warrant on Seven Trees Boulevard, they attempted to detain a vehicle connected to their primary target. However, the situation quickly escalated as the suspect attempted to flee, igniting a car chase that culminated in a crash. Although the driver managed to evade immediate capture by barricading himself within a local residence, the subsequent search yielded no further leads on his whereabouts.
The subsequent search of the vehicle, with the assistance of K9 Duke, turned up the massive drug cache along with $4,000 in cash and a loaded firearm. The seizure marks a milestone for the Narcotics Unit, which was reinstated in November 2024 in response to heightened drug activities in the area.
The suspected orchestrators of the drug ring, Jose Ortiz-Rivera and Adela Lamas-Quintero, were arrested facing a series of charges. Both are now booked on $500,000 bail with charges that range from possession to distribution to offenses related to counterfeit identification. Authorities hope to effectively permanently disable the DTO's operations with these arrests.
