Northbound Alcoa Highway (US 129/State Route 115) in Knox County will be fully closed between John Sevier Highway (State Route 168) and the UT Medical Center starting early on October 4. The closure is for construction work to remove rock near the roadway, according to the Tennessee Department of Transportation.
A detour is in place due to construction. Drivers can use I-140 (Pellissippi Parkway) to bypass the area. Local traffic can use State Route 168 (John Sevier Highway) to reach US 441 (Chapman Highway). The Maloney Road Interchange remains open for local traffic only, as reported by the Tennessee Department of Transportation.
The southbound side of Alcoa Highway will remain mostly open, but rolling roadblocks will occur during blasting and at times over the weekend for emergency vehicles to access the University of Tennessee Medical Center, causing occasional slowdowns. Work is expected to finish by 6:00 a.m. on October 7, unless bad weather delays it to the weekend of October 18. "Motorists are advised to expect delays and use extreme caution in this area as workers will be present." Drivers should allow extra travel time and follow road signs for updates, as stated by the Tennessee Department of Transportation.
