Arlington Public Library has opened up a call for community members to participate in a collective remembrance through its Día de los Muertos Ofrenda project. Participants are encouraged to submit photographs of deceased loved ones to be included in a communal altar, a tradition surrounding the Day of the Dead, which honors the lives of those who have passed away.

The library's initiative looks to bring together residents in celebrating the memory of family and friends during Día de los Muertos, an event rooted deeply in tradition. To be a part of this, individuals can send photos via email to the library contact, Miranda Chambless. Alongside the photographs, a submission form needs to be completed, ensuring that each tribute is handled with care and respect. Submissions started being accepted on Monday, Sept. 15, and will run through Oct. 15. However, it should be noted, photos sent in post the deadline may not make it into the display.

According to the City of Arlington, "The completed ofrenda will be on display starting Oct. 20 at the East Library and Recreation Center, 1817 New York Ave." This exhibits the library’s intent to foster a sense of community by showcasing the collective narratives and heritage of its residents.
