With the first days of fall peeking around the corner, Atlanta braces for a stretch of warm, mostly sunny days, punctuated by a gradual increase in thunderstorm activity as the week progresses. According to the National Weather Service, locals can expect today to stay mainly sunny with highs around 90 degrees, and the tranquility of calm winds—though there's a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms developing post-4 p.m.
Tonight's skies will turn to partly cloudy, the low teetering at a comfortable 68 degrees, while Sunday promises more sunshine with highs in the upper 80s and light Southeast winds, similarly, Sunday night will mirror this with partly cloudy skies and lows in the upper 60s, making it a consistent pattern that seems to hold as the new week dawns, Monday continuing the trend of mostly sunny skies and highs once again flirting with the 88-degree mark.
As Tuesday unfurls, temperatures are expected to edge back up, nearly hitting the 90-degree mark once more; however, it remains mostly sunny, with Tuesday night's temperature only slightly higher than previous nights at 69 degrees, creeping us into a midweek where the chances of thunderstorms become more palpable, as Wednesday's forecast introduces a 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms after 2 p.m., alongside a persistent high near 90 degrees.
A noticeable shift comes Wednesday night when clouds gather more densely, the chance of precipitation inching up to 40 percent—this is a harbinger for what's to come: Thursday and Thursday night both carry a 50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms with temperatures starting to dip into the lower 80s, suggesting a more tumultuous end to the week's weather narrative, Friday following suit with a continued 50 percent chance of showers though perhaps seeing a little more sunshine breaking through the partly sunny expanse.
