Avondale residents are bracing for a major upgrade to the Old Town infrastructure, as the City prepares to roll out Phase 5 of its ongoing improvement project. Starting September 22, 2025, the construction is set to focus on two main project areas: one stretching from Main Street to Whyman Avenue, and another from Western Avenue to Pacific Drive.
The work is first slated to quickly begin with replacing the aging water infrastructure beneath the city's streets. While the construction crews dive into the task of installing new water pipelines, service lines, and fire hydrants, residents should prepare for some inconveniences. On-street parking will be temporarily restricted, and traffic reroutes are to be expected. However, local access will be sustained during the majority of the project, with only occasional interruptions. In an effort to keep the public informed, any planned service interruptions or access changes will be communicated ahead of time via door hangers.
After the waterline replacements are completed, attention will shift to enhancing pedestrian accessibility. Sidewalks and ramps throughout the affected areas will be upgraded to meet ADA standards. The final touches include resurfacing the roads and replacing the materials found beneath. Despite the projected disturbances, the city has committed to ensuring that emergency routes remain clear throughout the construction.
Estimated to wrap up by late July 2026, this series of upgrades is anticipated to bolster the Old Town Avondale's capacity to serve its residents efficiently. Regarding the potential impacts and project status, the city has stood up a dedicated hotline at (602) 532- 6250 for residents seeking the latest updates or information.
Residents can find additional information and keep up to date with the latest news on the city's website, official announcement.
