The Brighton City Council has officially sealed the deal on who's in the running for the upcoming election. In a unanimous decision, with a single council member missing in action, the Council has given the green light to the ballot lineup for November 4. According to the City of Brighton, voters in Brighton will see these names when they hit the polls to pick their local leaders.
Mayor Gregory Mills, who's looking to grab the gavel once more, tops the list. For those keeping close tabs on Ward 1, it's a toss-up between Jessie Williams and Rhianon Collins. Voters in Ward 2 will see a solo run with Ann Taddeo's name being the only one on the ballot, and over in Ward 3, Kevin W Forsyth and Melinda Carbajal are set to duke it out for a seat at the council table. Finally, Peter Padilla will be the lone candidate for Ward 4, running unopposed.
With the names now etched into the ballot, the election machinery of Brighton kicks into gear. Residents with a keen interest in the direction of their community have just over two months to evaluate the contenders. The candidates themselves are no doubt preparing to make their cases heard, knowing fully well the impact their campaigns, their words, and their promises could have on the home front, where policies shape playgrounds and legislation can touch the very streets where folks march to the beat of their daily lives.
