A road rage incident at a West Covina shopping center parking lot has caught the attention of bystanders and online viewers after video footage surfaced, capturing vehicular chaos. According to FOX LA, two cars were seen aggressively pursuing each other and colliding multiple times on the premises located off Sunset and Francisquito avenues. Despite the potentially hazardous behavior, West Covina Police stated that no injuries were reported as the cars had vacated the scene before their arrival.
Witnesses expressed their concern over the intensity of the situation, which seemed to have the potential to quickly escalate out of hand. "I'm just glad that nobody got hurt because the whole parking lot was full, people were everywhere," said Arlene Cano, an employee of Louie's Liquor, in an interview with FOX LA. In another account, Drea Cano, general manager at the same establishment, told CBS News Los Angeles, "Part of me wanted to run over there and be nosy and see what happened," revealing the shock the incident ushered in among witnesses.
The video, now circulating on social media, has sparked curiosity and concern as it showcases the two cars—a silver and a gray sedan—willfully colliding with each other as if participants in a demolition derby, according to KTLA. The footage depicted items flying out from the vehicles while bystanders looked on in disbelief, yelling and reacting to the unfolding drama. The immediate cause of the road rage episode remains unclear at this time.
While the West Covina Police have acknowledged the occurrence and taken witness statements, the parties involved had not contacted the department to file their own reports. "Both parties involved in the incident fled the area prior to our arrival," a statement from WCPD declared, as reported by CBS News Los Angeles. The ongoing investigation is still attempting to identify the individuals who were part of this dangerous spectacle. In the meantime, the repercussions and possible charges that could ensue against the drivers are still under consideration, with further details not yet released by the police.
CBS News Los Angeles reached out for comments from both the West Covina mayor and some city council members, but at the time of the article, responses had not been provided. The story remains developing as authorities continue to investigate the cause and accountability of the incident.
