Two men from Charlotte have been detained following an attempted bank fraud incident at the Fifth Third Bank in Denver. The Catawba County Sheriff's Office said the two, Delvario Davon Boyce Jr., 22, and Earnest Glen Burris Jr., 62, allegedly tried to carry out a fraudulent fund transfer using a fake ID. According to the statement released by the Sheriff's Office, deputies responded to a fraud report at the bank last Friday.
Boyce, who now faces several charges including attempted obtaining property by false pretense, possession of a firearm by a felon, identity theft, and carrying a concealed weapon, was given an $11,000 bond. QC News reports that his initial court appearance was on Monday, and another court date has yet to be announced.
Meanwhile, his accomplice Burris has been slapped with charges of attempted obtaining property by false pretense and identity theft, receiving a "$5,000 secured bond," per information obtained by WBTV.
Notified through a social media post by the Catawba County Sheriff’s Office, the public and other jurisdictions have been alerted to the suspects' modus operandi. Officials encourage a review of recent and past cases for potential crossover with these suspects. For anyone needing to coordinate on this case, Senior Investigator D. Jenkins has been identified as the lead. The social media alert included contact information for Major Aaron Turk, Public Information Officer, who provided details for reaching out to the investigating team.
The Catawba County Detention Facility currently houses Burris, who is set to face the next court hearing on September 29.
