In an attempt to foster better understanding and collaboration between the police and the public they serve, the Clayton Police Department is inviting residents, business owners, and employees working in Clayton to take part in their Citizens Police Academy. The academy aims to provide a detailed look into the inner workings of law enforcement, offering hands-on experiences and discussions that demystify the processes behind the badge. Announced by the City of Clayton, the next session of this engaging program is slated to commence on October 9.
The initiative runs for eight weeks, every Thursday night from 6:00–8:00 p.m. While no session will be held on November 27, consistent attendance is encouraged for participants. This is because, described on the city's website, each session builds on the previous ones, covering areas like patrol procedures, criminal and juvenile law, crime scene investigation, and traffic enforcement. Participants get to see, first-hand, how officers are trained to handle these various facets of their job with professionalism and integrity.
Those interested in joining the Academy must meet certain prerequisites. Applicants are required to be at least 18 years old and have a direct connection to Clayton as either a resident, a business owner, or an employee. Admission is not guaranteed and is by application only. Upon application, background checks will be conducted to ensure the security and integrity of the program. Given that the class size is limited, applications are reviewed on a first-come basis, as indicated by the City of Clayton.
For Clayton locals looking for insight into the daily realities police officers face, this program offers a unique educational opportunity. To apply or to learn more about the Citizens Police Academy and its objectives, residents and stakeholders in Clayton should head to the official city website for additional details and application procedures.
